FEVER RAY: If I Had A Heart

If you were waiting for a new The Knife record, you will be pleased with the debut of Fever Ray. Karin Dreijer Andersson, half of the brother-sister duo, has released a solo outing under the Fever Ray guise, and stakes out off-shoot territory: slightly less electro, but equally moody and sinister. The production style is signature in darkness, but with tinges of more organic motifs and ambient construction. The video is directed by long time collaborate and fellow Swede, Andreas Nilsson. WHITEST BOY ALIVE: Golden Cage

Yaaay! Berlin based wunderband The Whitest Boy Alive are back with a brand new self released record entitled Rules. Now there's no single yet released and, thus no new video to report, so here is a rather simple and elegant video treatment from their first album. As usually, vocals are provided by folktastic Norwegian, Erlend Oye (he of his solo and Kings Of Convenience work), and wonderfully illustrations are courtesy of artist Geoff McFetridge. Second cute clip from electro canine, Rex The Dog. Stop motion animation abounds on this Geoffroy De Crecy directed spot, mixing paper crafted caricatures, simple staging, synth flourishes and that unmistakable Yazoo vocal sample. Watch the music video (qt).

TV ON THE RADIO: Owl And Stork

TV On The Radio ramp up a mid tempo single with a Petrofilms directed stop motion video. It's a collage lion headed angel man flying forever upwards in what I can only describe as artsy noodlemauchen. Watch the music video (qt).

PACIFIC: Hot Lips

The news school of electropop brilliance has emerged outside of France and is now firmly nestled in Sweden. Pacific! is one of the new vanguards of Swedish electropop and this gorgeously illustrated video directed by Stephane Manel is a shining example of music and video coming together in perfect harmony. New Orleans soul funk outfit blow your mind with a raptastic collaboration of fresh live jams with battle MCs. This track features the microphone chatter of hip hop aggitator Boots Riley and enlists the visual chops of Ron Winter. If I'm not stoned, I'm pretty sure thats a pterodactyl cook and a couple of swan headed ladies... Watch the music video (qt).

BLOC PARTY: One Month Off

Bloc Party raid your classic fairytales with modern weapons of war in this latest video directed by the D.A.D.D.Y. team. The band, again, avoid actually appearing in the video, instead opting to portray the music with innocents Red Riding Hood and Miss Muffet getting mowed down by tanks and grenades. HEADMAN: On And On

Headman is often a favourite for runway fashion show, mixing electro with rock elements for stylish effect. This video, directed by Simon Owens, is decidely, not so glamourous. Instead finding inspiration in Coco Rocha style Irish dancing with poor lighting and grainy film stock puts this video in the "indie" category. Watch the music video (qt).

BEYONCÉ: Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

As far as pop music goes, this single from Beyoncé slew the back half of 2008. A guaranteed panty flinging at every party I deejayed, and will undoubtedly continue to plow through the early 09. One of a duo of Sasha Fierce videos directed by Jake Nava, this is the one that features that glimmering robo-power glove. If I'm not mistaken, the mind blowing choreography is courtesy of gender bender performer Jonte (and in my opinion, the REAL Sasha Fierce...) UPDATE: Apparently I am mistaken. Choreography is by JaQuel Knight. However, I wasn't all wrong. JaQuel is apparently one of the female back-up dancers in the video... in gender bending drag. Watch the music video (qt).

SHOCKING PINKS: Emily

Being signed to DFA Records tends to get you some notice when it comes to innovative indie dance music, and Shocking Pinks is such a band. No fuss drone punk from New Zealand fronted by Nick Harte, listen lightly and find an articulated My Bloody Valentine influence. The work released by DFA is broadly a compilation of previous work. Newer work under the DFA label is yet to be released. The video is directed by Ron Winter with Ben Dickinson. Watch the music video (qt).

KINGS OF LEON: Use Somebody

I'm really enjoying he new Kings of Leon record. It's a moody affair, produced by Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King, and poised to jettison KOL past their silly southern hillbilly alt-rock label to something bigger, bolder, ballsier, without necessarily abandoning all for which they stand. The subtle southern twain remains, but thankfully Caleb got a haircut. Now he looks like a proper rockin' southern gentleman. Watch the music video (qt).

LADYHAWKE: My Delirium

Pip Brown's alter ego Ladyhawke lifts itself off the eighties fantasy film of the same name. It's no wonder that her sound riffs off the similar era, but amped up with hip kid cred by signing label Modular (a perpetual cliptip favourite). Enjoy the accompanying Partizan music video directed by the duo known as Frater with the water-colour talents of illustrator Sarah Larnach. Watch the music video (qt).

LILY ALLEN: The Fear

Life has been a bit rough for Lily: a miscarriage, a broken-off engagement with fiance, Chemical Brother Ed Simons, and a much label delayed second album. Well things seem to be back on track for the pop enfant terrible, with this new single including the brilliant lyric, "I am a weapon of mass consumption." The spoiled brat personae is further foiled by this Nez directed video. Watch the music video (qt).
