SHOCKING PINKS: Emily

Being signed to DFA Records tends to get you some notice when it comes to innovative indie dance music, and Shocking Pinks is such a band. No fuss drone punk from New Zealand fronted by Nick Harte, listen lightly and find an articulated My Bloody Valentine influence. The work released by DFA is broadly a compilation of previous work. THESE NEW PURITANS: Elvis

When your personally commisioned by Hedi Slimane to compose his last mens runway collection for Dior Homme, you kinda know you've already made it with some significantly influential taste makers. Such is the case with London post punksters These New Puritans. Said fashion show features a 15 minute soundtrack so angularly stylish, the press could not help but pay attention. So what was the connection? The apparent link the the fashion design lies with one of the band members being part of Hedi's design team. Quick top deny the overly primped association with high fashion vanity, the band readily distance themselves from being the shallow side of the fashion business, concentrating on the music itself, and not the gloss. This bare and stark video, directed by Saam, is a clear indication. Watch the music video (qt).

LIARS: Plaster Casts Of Evertything

The calmer ethereal tones of Drums Not Dead are, for lack of better words, dead. The new album by the New York based art rockers returns to the pulsing punk energy and urgency of their original posture. The forth album, the self titled Liars, churns a really shit storm and this first video, direct by Patrick Daughters, is a fitting visualization. Superimposed projection images dopplegange their original subjects as a barreling car motors down a dark desert highways. Surreal, Lynch-esque, terrifying and mesmerizing all in one intense experience. Watch the music video (qt).

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM: All My Friends

Is that James Murphy or the incredible Hulk merged with Ziggy Stardust? The second video from the really really awesome second album from the LCD Soundsystem is directed by Tom Kuntz. While I enjoy this track, it is far from my favourite on the album. Plink plink plinky pianos seem to channel the arty experimental reflections of mid-90's Orbital or Steve Reich. THE RAPTURE: Get Myself Into It

Brand spanking new The Rapture from the much much much anticipated follow-up to Echoes. The new album is called Pieces Of The People We Love and it's due September 12 in the USA. This single gets official September the 4th and I would expect a series of killer ripper remixes to compliment it's dancefloor domination. Highly infection sax and drum with the familiar howl of Luke Jenner, the video goes on to fully revive the roller skating phenomenon, flared white pant suits and all. It's really quite a simple concept, but absolute joy to watch with a fun little roller battle between The Rapture bassist Matt Safer and roller dude. YEAH YEAH YEAHS: Turn Into

The New York art-rock trio are too freaking cool for school. This simple, elegant video matches so bloody well with this single, I nearly licked the screen. Patrick Daughters directs and continues to build an A-list roster of great music videos. In the meantime, the dazzling lead singer Karen O. breaks up with Spike Jonze and wills the paparazzi away.
