TV ON THE RADIO: Owl And Stork

HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR: You Belong

With references to early Detroit techno house sound, the Brooklyn based project helmed by Andy Butler, continues to plow on, sweeping the clubs, runways and ipod nation. Australian director Kris Moyes adds a touch of indie esoteria to this gem of a single, while fully featuring the stunning looks and vocals of Brooklyn chanteuse Nomi. Watch the music video (qt).

GRACE JONES: Corporate Cannibal

The 80's icon is back to eat you! Lifted off her forthcoming 10th studio album, Hurricane, the cultish beat will undoubtedly appeal to the high gloss, high drama fashionista set. Nick Hooker captures the still stunning, still angular lines of Ms. Jones is a heavy distortion black and white fever dream of rumbling basslines and menacing glares. MGMT: Electric Feel

Cliptip favourite psychedelic glam band MGMT have a second surrealist music video out to support their single Electric Feel. The album Oracular Spectacular is a high rotation, highly recommended gem here on the cliptip ipod. The video is directed by Ray Tintori, and features an animatronic band straight out of your local Chuck-E-Cheese restaurant set in a forest of elfish revellers. It's reminiscient of a sunday afternoon in Montreal patchouli soaked Tam Tams. Watch the music video (qt).

MGMT: Time To Pretend

MGMT (formerly know as The Management) are a surf-rock psychedelic glam band outta Brooklyn. And they're very cool. In fact expect to see more of them here, cause I like 'em. This is the first single and video, and it warps the mind as much as the ear with its crazy visuals and stoner sounds. And not to be outdone, the video is also available in trippy 3D as well. BJÖRK: Wanderlust

You've no doubt heard the hype of this amazing new Bjork video. Directed by Manhattan based art collective Encyclopedia Pictura, not only is the clip a return to the fantastical world of Bjork's earlier music video work, but is considered a return to a golden age of all music videos- iconic, innovative, powerfully influential and musically illustrative. Combining puppetry, computer animation, miniatures and live action, the concept revolves around "creating mytho-poetic cosmology of a primitive world complete with water deities and the struggle towards the future. The main theme being nomadism since it is for the track ‘Wanderlust.’ Unfortunately this version is only in 2 dimensions, but there is the originally concieved 3D version out there... SANTOGOLD: L.E.S. Artistes

More brilliance from Brooklyn, this time in the form of fusion hipster magnet Santi White, aka Santogold. Working the cool kids circuit with everyone from Switch, M.I.A. and Diplo, and recently anointed as one of Rolling Stone's 10 artists to watch, this girl has got all the right moves. Her debut video is directed by Nima Nourizadeh, last seen here attaching multiple arms on co-hort M.I.A. Watch the music video (qt).

HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR: Blind

This track essential tore apart the runaways of the recent fashion weeks across the world. Featuring the mesmerizing vocals of Antony Hegarty, last seen dueting with Bjork, you can imaging a bunch of sashaying fashionists delicately, dispassionately dancing to the saxophone infused tempo. It's an amazingly sophisticated track that stands proudly amongst a backdrop of harsh electrofied fakers. The rest of the album is reported to be just as outstanding. DFA does it yet again. M.I.A.: Paper Planes

Well about bloody time this video made itself on this blog, but it is not for lack of trying. Crap-flash-tic versions abound, but cliptip offers you a wonderful quicktime file. Directed by Bernard Gourley, M.I.A. is showcased in her adopted New York home looking ghetto fabulous, working the bodega, flippin the Casette Playa. Watch the music video (qt).

CHROMEO: Bonafide Lovin'

Good times party duo Chromeo continue to bring back eighties inspired electrofunk with a third single from their sophamore release, Fancy Footwork. I was fortunate enough to catch the twosome as they brought the house down recently at the Bowery Ballroom. It absolutely blows my mind the Dave1 (aka David Macklovitch) is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia university. Bonafide brilliant. This video is a riff off the iconic Money For Nothing Dire Straits video, reinterpreted by director Nima Nourizadeh. Watch the music video (qt).

MOBY: Alice

Moby's career as a back studio act or deejay booth spinner is a progression of the bald headed punk techno assembler emerging into the forefront like a pallid creature from a crypt. As evident in his other works, Moby's vocals are somewhat weak and, well, dorky to say the least. But his musical impact is often most memorable when his guests provide the lyrical lead. The new record is called Last Night and is said to feature more dance oriented sounds with a pile of vocal collaborators including "the original 70's mc grandmaster caz one of the writers of rappers delight, sylvia from kudu, the uk's mc aynzli and the nigerian 419 squad." This first video is directed by Swedish nutter, Andreas Nilssson, best know for his inspired and eccentric pieces for The Knife. Watch the music video (qt).

LIARS: Plaster Casts Of Evertything

The calmer ethereal tones of Drums Not Dead are, for lack of better words, dead. The new album by the New York based art rockers returns to the pulsing punk energy and urgency of their original posture. The forth album, the self titled Liars, churns a really shit storm and this first video, direct by Patrick Daughters, is a fitting visualization. Superimposed projection images dopplegange their original subjects as a barreling car motors down a dark desert highways. Surreal, Lynch-esque, terrifying and mesmerizing all in one intense experience. Watch the music video (qt).

BEIRUT: Postcards From Italy

Santa Fe native come Brooklynite Zach Condon has an interesting take on indie rock. Inspired by a uncredited photo of what appears to be an Eastern European setting, Beirut take on Balkan-esque instrumentation crafted with warm indie rock cardiganisms. This was one of my favourite records of last year when I have recently uncovered a trove of music videos to post. Directed by Alma Har'el, the sepia tones capture the period piece of faded memories of exotic lands abroad. Watch the music video (qt).

ERICK MORILLO: Break Down The Doors

Unearthed from the underground clubs of 2005, comes this tech house gem from superstar deejay Erick Morillo. Simple, clean and throbbing, Erick teamed up with UK rapping electronic outfit Audiobullys to add their unmistakeable dispassionate British drawl to booty shaking effect. The shiny chic sexy veneer of director Phil Griffin keeps the video looking fashionably fresh, despite its original release date. Oh, and that is supermodel Naomi Campbell. And those may or may not be her ex-assistants' heads mounted on the wall. Watch the music video (qt).

MARK RONSON: Oh My God

Believe it or not, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is now almost 20 years old. Holy Bejebus that means I'm getting old. And as all self respecting cartoon-slash-live-action pop film deserve, Mark Ronson's latest single pays tribute is music video form. Enlisting the directorial skills of Nima Nourizadeh and the vocal skills of potty mouth pop princess Lily Allen, Mark funkafies the Kaiser Chiefs punk anthem. Ironically, Lily plays the cartoon temptress while the Kaisers make the cameo. Watch the music video (qt).

BATTLES: Atlas

Can anyone categorize the sound of Battles? Is it prog rock, electro rock, glam rock, alt rock or psychedelica? I've got no idea, but this first video from their latest long player Mirrors is a rollicking thumper with weird vocal overlays and serious T. Rex percussion. The video is a beauty: glass boxed, dynamic angles and vivid rich colour saturations directed by photographer Timothy Saccenti. Cheers to tipster Jesse M. Watch the music video (qt).

SCISSOR SISTERS: Kiss You Off

After the mid tempo balladeering of their last single, New York cabaret glam popsters Scissor Sisters return to dancefloor filling form with this dance track. Helmed by Ana Matronic on lead vocals and that terrifying lyrical wit only earned through years of gay culture, this video, directed by Robert Hales, takes inspiration for 60's mod fashion, beauty salon aesthetics and the band's signature camp. !!!: Must Be The Moon

Continuing with the moon theme, this is the latest from !!! (chk chk chk) the New York based collection of disco punksters. The political agitation has been noticeably toned down, although not eliminated on the new album, and this video showcases the disco house party philosophy with out the literal anti-Bush-isms. Though touched with war paint embellishments, the kitchen party jams and hot melting pot mamas make this single irresistible to the thinking man's dancefloor. I just hope he's not wearing real fur. MARK RONSON: Stop Me

British born, New York based deejay and producer Mark Ronson collects a high-profile celebrity collaborated album of cover versions in his signature soul funk style. Enlisting everyone from bad girl lush Amy Winehouse, ambisexual Robbie Williams, mouthy cutie Lily Allen, rockers Kasabian or California sunshiners Phantom Planet, to cleveryly interpret such modern charters as Toxic by Britney Spears, Just by Radiohead, or Oh my God by the Kaiser Chiefs. cleverly This is the first video takes on the Smiths original, with soul crooning vocals by Australian Daniel Merriweather. The video, directed by Scott Lyon, explores the life of sneakers with a mind of their own. Watch the music video (qt).

BLONDE REDHEAD: 23

I am currently lamenting the fact that I have completely missed the boat on getting tickets to the now sold out show of Blonde Redhead this Saturday (May 12th) at Club Soda (Montreal), but at least I have this video to comfort me. Listed off the latest album, the trio continue to navigate further from the Sonic Youth comparisons into a unique indie sound of their own. Photographer and director Melodie McDaniel directs this one, a feverish, ghostly-imaged that echoes the singles kinetic pace with Kazu Makino's enrapturing vocal delivery. Watch the music video (qt).
