GRACE JONES: Corporate Cannibal

The 80's icon is back to eat you! Lifted off her forthcoming 10th studio album, Hurricane, the cultish beat will undoubtedly appeal to the high gloss, high drama fashionista set. Nick Hooker captures the still stunning, still angular lines of Ms. Jones is a heavy distortion black and white fever dream of rumbling basslines and menacing glares. BOMB THE BASS: Butterfingers

How freaking cool is it that original innovator Bomb The Bass have returned with a brand spanking new record? The seminal cut-and-paste act from the eighties team up with the with surprisingly un-Japanese Fujiya and Miyagi for a kicker of a electropop gem. UNKLE: Burn My Shadow

Tipster Phillip A. points us to the latest from UK hipster tripsters lead by James Lavelle, UNKLE. The Cult singer Ian Astbury joins for the latest single, melding his trademark The Cult personae with driving rock percussion and frantic panicked energy. Aptly reflected by director Miguel Sapochnik in the video, actor Goran Visnjic turns into a ticking timebomb. From the forthcoming long player, War Stories, out July 2007. BAT FOR LASHES: Prescilla

Natasha Khan, the lead woman behind London's Bat For Lashes has been generated UK music rag heat for the past couple of months. I picked up her debut on Echo Records while on a trip to the UK recently and I have not been disappointed. The middle eastern influences meld nicely with the contemporary instrumentation and downtempo electronic hi-jinks some journos would term trip-hop. But make no mistake, the dark, brooding and sparse atmospheres created stir a mood currently lacking in popular music. The video is directed by Andy Bruntel @ the directors bureau. UNKLE: Be There

Oldie but a rare goodie, Unkle's collaboration with the original monkey man Ian Brown still sounds relatively fresh considering the plundered trip hop sounds of the 90's. Naturally ominous and dark in mood, director Jake Scott captures the dreariness of London's afterhours tube system and the joy of portable cassette players. Watch the music video (qt).

GOLDFRAPP: Human

Jake Scott directs the voyeuristic video from the Bath duo. Although this is an old video from their debut album, clearly I am having waiting issues as the Supernature record is tied up in North American release limbo until next year. UNKLE: Rabbit In Your Headlights

Brilliant track from the first Unkle project helmed by James Lavalle with beatmaster DJ Shadow and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. This moody track was released in the reigning era of trip hop, brought to life by the skillful eye of director Jonathan Glazer and subsequently banned by MTV for its violent imagery. Although Mr. Glazer has only a relatively few number of videos under his belt (including landmark clips for Massive Attack, Radiohead and Jamiroquai), they are all of high visual and narrative standard, impressive enough to warrant his own Directors Label compilation. UNKLE: Reign

James Lavalle commissions pretty great videos. The clip for Reign matches the moody, epic quality of this Ian Brown collaboration. Musically, the track crossed the electronic, indie and brit-pop sets with easy stride. Watch the video. (qt)

RÓISÍN MURPHY: If We're In Love

The Irish singer from the nutter band Moloko goes solo with her first album. Collaborating with producer Matthew Herbert, this single is as over the top as any of the Moloko pieces, but different in a less cartoony way and more in a drama queen artiste fashion.
