JAMIE LIDELL: Another Day

Well it seems I have some time to update this blog. And there is a pretty cool backlog of high quality videos to post, so let's get started with Jamie Lidell's latest soul groove. Although the new album steers clear of the earlier electronic noodlings of previous Super_Collider work or even his first solo effort of warped experimentations, the sing-a-long soul of this positive single is hard to resist. DUFFY: Mercy

Is this squeaky clean Welsh blonde the new Amy Winehouse? The UK press seems to make her out to be. Sure she's got an wizened beyond her teenage years world weariness about her and her voice is prematurely gruff and soulful. But it's doubtful that low register voice is a result of all night benders, spousal shouting matches or a cocktail of too much hair colourant and beehive holding spray akin to he peer. SAM SPARRO: Black And Gold

Look out Jamie Lidell. Los Angeles based soul electrofunkster Sam Sparro is riding a blogospheric wave of hype usually reserved for NME endorsed indie band-o-the-week. The slick production and the soulful croon of this blue eyed boy will equally satisfy Maroon 5 to 9ers and French Touchtards. The LA style blinged video is directed by Alexandliane. UNKLEJAM: Love Ya

For some reason, Pharell's debut album never sounded this funky. Perhaps this three piece electro-soul lacks the impressive production credits of the crooning half of the Neptunes, but this single has got the swagger to warrant a second glance. Paul Gore directs the frantastic trio in this high energy ball 'o funk. Watch the music video (qt).

AMY WINEHOUSE: Rehab

Seriously, someone please send this woman to rehab. That crazy beehive hairdo she's been sporting is looking mighty nappy these days, like she's been rolling around in the gutters of East London sucking the remnant droplets from discarded bottles of lager. And even when she's slumming around town in a dressed-down wife-beater, she is always on with that liquid liner Cleopatra eyes business. It's really really important that we help her get back to sober because she's gotta be in top form for her appearance at the Toronto Island Virgin Music Festival gig. The sixties swing soul production of this Mark Ronson produced single is nicely complimented by the video direction of Phil Griffin. By the way, her first album, entitled Frank, is now officially available in the USA these days, unless you already picked in up on import. Good stuff, but it ain't Mr. Ronson's magic touch. MARK RONSON: Oh My God

Believe it or not, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is now almost 20 years old. Holy Bejebus that means I'm getting old. And as all self respecting cartoon-slash-live-action pop film deserve, Mark Ronson's latest single pays tribute is music video form. Enlisting the directorial skills of Nima Nourizadeh and the vocal skills of potty mouth pop princess Lily Allen, Mark funkafies the Kaiser Chiefs punk anthem. Ironically, Lily plays the cartoon temptress while the Kaisers make the cameo. Watch the music video (qt).

AMY WINEHOUSE: Back To Black

To dash the constant press of her drunken exploits, Amy Winehouse's spin doctors have saw it fit to release a an interview stating her love of music is paramount to her love of the drink and that she has recently converted into a gym monkey. So does this mean no more spills and sloppiness for her upcoming shows? I am really looking forward to seeing how she behaves at this year's Toronto V-Fest. Watch the music video (qt).

British born, New York based deejay and producer Mark Ronson collects a high-profile celebrity collaborated album of cover versions in his signature soul funk style. Enlisting everyone from bad girl lush Amy Winehouse, ambisexual Robbie Williams, mouthy cutie Lily Allen, rockers Kasabian or California sunshiners Phantom Planet, to cleveryly interpret such modern charters as Toxic by Britney Spears, Just by Radiohead, or Oh my God by the Kaiser Chiefs. cleverly This is the first video takes on the Smiths original, with soul crooning vocals by Australian Daniel Merriweather.
