DUFFY: Mercy

Is this squeaky clean Welsh blonde the new Amy Winehouse? The UK press seems to make her out to be. Sure she's got an wizened beyond her teenage years world weariness about her and her voice is prematurely gruff and soulful. But it's doubtful that low register voice is a result of all night benders, spousal shouting matches or a cocktail of too much hair colourant and beehive holding spray akin to he peer. Let's just all hold hands and pray fame has a less debilitating effect on this promising new blue-eyed soul sprite. Video directed by Daniel Wolfe. Adele who? Watch the music video (qt).

THE HORRORS: Gloves

When the debut video for a relatively new band is directed by Chris Cunningham, you know there's some major support being thrown their way. And with a dazzling psycho-delic punk ep under their belt, the critics were both impressed and dismissive. UK Popworld presenter Alexa Chung most notoriously calling the band "Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" linked to the pronounced and perhaps overwhelmingly distinct image of the band. Their second video, directed by Patizan's Daniel Wolfe, continues in the tradition of their orchestrated style of high drama eyeliner gothica mashed with agitated punk drums, howling lyrics and distorted guitars. The debut album, Strange House, is out March 2007. Watch the music video (qt).
