BEYONCÉ: Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

As far as pop music goes, this single from Beyoncé slew the back half of 2008. A guaranteed panty flinging at every party I deejayed, and will undoubtedly continue to plow through the early 09. One of a duo of Sasha Fierce videos directed by Jake Nava, this is the one that features that glimmering robo-power glove. If I'm not mistaken, the mind blowing choreography is courtesy of gender bender performer Jonte (and in my opinion, the REAL Sasha Fierce...) UPDATE: Apparently I am mistaken. Choreography is by JaQuel Knight. However, I wasn't all wrong. JaQuel is apparently one of the female back-up dancers in the video... in gender bending drag. Watch the music video (qt).

ANNIE: I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me

Norwegian electropop darling, Annie, is back with a second long player due shortly. The first is a sugary confection produced by Richard X and while lacks in feats of musical innovation, lands squarely in the sweet spot of top girly bubblegum pop. Directed by Sarah Chatfield in hypercolour make-up. Watch the music video (qt).

GOLDFRAPP: A&E

Goldfrapp glide back into the limelight this February with a new record that side steps the glam-pop chart success of Supernature. Now trumpeting a mellow, folk tinged atmospheric sensibility, Alison and Gregory veer Seventh Tree into pastoral territory somewhat explored with their debut album, but equally pop-ified to Felt Mountain as Supernature was to Black Cherry. The video builds on the Goldfrapp mystique, serene in nature, with shambling mounds of vegetation choreographed in swirling, collapsing oddity. Colonel Blimp's Dougal Wilson helms the lens. KASABIAN: Me Plus One

Psychedelic glam rock is the new resurgence fighting for real estate against eighties hyper-neon new rave on the hip radar. Kasabian are not necessarily known as originators of the movement, but certain are no detractors from the current movement. This erotic hallucinogenic little white rabbit of a video, complete with black and white drama exploding in flowing psychoactive coloured dancers, is directed by Scott Lyons. Watch the music video (qt).
