FEIST: I Feel It All

Everyone love Feist right now. Just open up your heart and let her sing and dance her way intp the warm cockles of your heart. She bounces into poptastic indie form with this happy bopper of a ditty and I just love it. It's everything you could want from a pop song, with the idiosyncratic charm that only a artist of original talent can properly assemble. Perhaps its the one too many glasses of red wine I've imbibed, but I'm a bit drunk of Leslie Feist. Watch the music video (qt).

EMILY HAINES & THE SOFT SKELETON: Our Hell

My personal hell is nearly over. Appropriately, Ms. Emily Haines provides a melancholy soundtrack to the workworkwork I have been face that past number of weeks, offering a jagged solace to my misery. We'll it will be cresting as of the end of this week, as I board a plane to Sao Paolo for the final chapter of week Hell. DRAGONETTE: I Get Around

Toronto / London based Dragonette have a strange pedigree. Singer Martina Sorbara, who also sang on a recent Basement Jaxx single, is the daughter of Ontario Finance Minister, Greg Sorbara. Instrumentalist Dan Kurtz is a member for the funk electronic soul jam, Raw The New Deal. They make unabashed pop music with touches of electro edge. And they kinda sass it up. FEIST: My Moon, My Man

Not too long ago I posted the 'GAP ad' reminiscent clip for Feist's single 1234. This video is actually the first single from her excellent third full length release, The Reminder, so I got the order a little mixed up. Directed by Patrick Daughters, it also features some quirky choreography but thus time involving airport conveyor belt sidewalks and a passenger possessing rhythm. Matched with an upbeat pop tempo and a piano riff with just a subtle touch of glam, this one's already a cliptip favourite. Watch the music video (qt).

METRIC: Empty

Who says cliptip doesn't have scoop? Here's the latest from Toronto's Metric, fronted by the electrifying Emily Haines. Recently slotted into the Toronto chapter of Mr. Branson's Virgin Music Festival 2007 on picturesque Toronto Island, it is cliptip's wish to have some websavvy promotional folks slide over some free tickets to give away to some cliptip savvy readers... I'd also like a nice silver porsche. Anyhoo, this single is a harder edge angle to the usually bounding pop friendly Metric sound, matched with the same lyrical bite as ever. More visual goodness from Director Jaron Albertin, this time channeling object throwing telekinetics in a poltergeist-friendly household objects unfriendly video. Watch the music video (qt).

Hiptards and douchebags congregate for a fourth episode of Dueling Deejays. It's all over again with a triumphant slavishly compiled Pitchfork set list of names to drop by bands you don't really like but feel socially obligated to. FEIST: 1234

Did you know this is the second video from the lovely Leslie Feist's third long player? Yes, it's album release number three, and if you own here very first album, Monarch, you are one lucky bastard (send me a copy, 'kay?) Feist plays her alluring sultry self in this sparkly, colourful choreographed number, described by many as a Gap ad in training. Not officially, but considering her electroclash BFF Peaches featured a track in a recent Gap ad, who really knows? The Reminder, the album is out soon. Can't wait for what's guaranteed to be excellent summer listening. Directed by Patrick Daughters, it is irresistible to not fall in love with Feist's easy breezy coolness. THE HIDDEN CAMERAS: Death Of A Tune

Has you seen Dream Girls yet? It's a rather telling story of music that rose up from a subculture and was subsequently watered down (i.e. sanitised) to ensure mainstream acceptability. This is sort of what I feel about the latest incarnation of the Hidden Cameras. The initial joy has sort of wanned on the Joel Gibb lead Toronto ensemble. The provocative gay sexuality themed odes to uninhibited dancing has been replace with a moderated aim at pop success. Add to that the usual suspects of the troop that loyal followers of the band have been largely replaced (i.e. defected). While the single is still tuneful and the Louis-Philippe Eno directed animated video a twee treat to behold, somehow something has been extracted without something invigorating re-injected. Well, the last time these two douchebags Deejay Dueled, it packed the joint. And, although neither deejay is saying who actually won the battle, in my opinion, Calvin kicked some serious ass. So it's an encore performance of these two as they suit up their record collections and pack it in to the Press Club again. Its going to be another night of hipster tunes for Toronto cats.

AMY MILLAN: Skinny Boy

Amy Millan returns to the dream pop territory she staked out with of her other band, the Toronto/New York/Montreal based Stars or her other other band, the Toronto collective Broken Social Scene. Her wonderful warm vocals tickle your ears while you bob your head to the mid tempo pulse of the blues tinged rhythm track. If her first single didn't sell you on the album, this one's a cincher. George Vale directs the doe-eyed singer in nostalgic black and white. Watch the music video (qt).
