Although critics called the Doves' third long player a blantant mainstream rock attempt which lost much of the moody experimentation of their first two albums, there is something reassuringly gloomy, at least lyrically, about this latest single. Maybe it's light on the edginess, but I'll take reliably good any day. Watch the video (qt).
A classic from the french duo. This is probably the only ping-pong near fatality I have every witnessed. Thank God Kelly pulls through... Watch the video (qt).
Trip hop duo Lamb are wonderlicious. Not only is this a great down tempo track, but rumour is that vocalist Lou Rhodes is about to release a solo album. Seems like the trip-hoperati are all about going solo, as did Roisin Murphy of Moloko. I'll keep you posted. Watch the video (qt).
Fierce track from the Sri Lankan born grime wonder. Blaring horns and old school electro hip hop beats with M.I.A.'s impeccable delivery. This one sounds best very very loud with very low frequency response. Watch the video (real).
For some reason I find this track so... passé. It's a bit of a rant, filled ironical with more hate than love which she apparently is tirading against. Normally a seductive smouldering chanteuse with torchy off kilter production and lyrics, Esthero aims squarely for mainstream music fans with imagery aping a preening Paris Hilton with accessory dog in the back of a limo and a sounds that tinly echoes of poorly lit early nineties canned dancebox production. No revolution here, and begging for a serious remix. Thankfully, the album contains singles more worthy of our attention, and Esthero's considerable talents are not bludgeoned to lifeless pulpy waste. But for goodness sakes, please leave Ashanti alone! Watch the video (qt).
Electro shocker! Goldfrapp returns to the forefront with another masterful track, with pumped up electro synths and glam rock attitude spray painted all over it. Although the new album, Supernature, is not expected to drop until August September, 2005 in the UK and early 2006 in North America (thanks, Arjan), we have this gemstone, complete with Alison galloping suggestively on a mirrorball horse, to enjoy in the meantime. Directed by ace visualizer Dawn Shadforth. Watch the video (win).
Choreography is pretty much all it take to make one hell of a video. That's pretty much all this video has from the Chicago foursome. And it is good. Watch the video (qt).
Folkie from suburban Toronto, Hayden wanders the woods stalked by giant plush beasties. Directed by Yael Staav. Last time I checked, which was admittedly around 10 years ago, these two were dating. Anyone know what's the deal? Watch the video (qt).
I remember recitals like this one- all dressed up in formal wear, audience hungry for their teen virtuaso to do them proud, to justify the hours and expense of tirelessly pursuing classical music training. Here though, DFA'79 actaully get to rock out. Watch the video (qt).
Second single from The Antidote, this video comprised of a mish mash of graphic design imagery from exotic locals. A very pop oriented tune, with Daisy's confident delivery. Watch the video (real).
According to Fatboy Norman Cook, racism kills racists dead. Amen. Paris Hilton apparently guests. This video's got multiple endings on how racists die. Weird. Watch the video version 1, video version 2, video version 3, video version 4 (qt).
New York glumsters Interpol take an unconventional approach to their typically high styled visuals and go oddly Jim Henson. This eerie puppet has such a strange juxtiposition to the events surrounding it leaving you fixated and puzzled at the same time. Watch the video (qt).
The Danish gay/straight duo tore it up recently at New York's Mercury Lounge, possibly signalling some new tunes to come. Here's a classic clip of bouncing pop-tastica that'll have you literally moving your feet. Visuals courtesy of the pixelated goodness of Shynola. Watch the video (qt).
Apparently the new album, Your New Best Friend, is only available in their native Norway. I suppose it best to enjoy some old stuff. Like this clip. Cool Scandinavian beats with body building women? Why not. Watch the video (qt).
Pleix does incredible, choreographed visuals, reminiscent of Matthew Barney's Cremaster series for this slice of Basement Jaxx. One of my favourite tracks off the Kish Kash album, Siouxsie Sioux adds vocal genius. Watch the video (qt).
What is with this goddamn infectious tune that has me humming incessantly despite its obvious pop machine talent contest pagentry? I mean for goodness sakes, it's the bloody American Idol! I guess when it boils down to it, it's all about the music. And it is a finely crafted, well performed pop gem. Now the From Justin to Kelly movie? That's a whole other story tragedy... Watch the video (qt).
A sinister skinless robot baby raps the chorus of the second Daft Punk single from the Human After All album. Do not watch while on pharmaceuticals. Watch the video (qt).
The track that made the mainstream watch mouse. Here is the Chris Mills directed video of paper sheep and moustaches from the indie band from Issaquah, Washington gone major label. Watch the video (qt).
Director Dawn Shadforth gives us the eccentric elf with ringing bells on Iceland's barren lava flows. A simple clean execution of a beautiful single. Look for Bjork's soundtrack collaboration for the art film Drawing Restraint 9 with significant other and epic visual artist Matthew Barney. Watch the video (qt).
Sweet folk sounds of the Toronto collective. The tour is slated for this summer, as is their return with a sudio album. Head to Toronto Island for their big show with Modest Mouse this Sunday. Watch the video (qt).
Badly Drawn Boy and video director / illustrator Monkmus show us the power of the hug. Some days, i think we could all us a fucking hug, alright? Watch the video (qt).
Latest from James Murphy and co. One of the funky jams that inspires tapping toes, or befuddled looks. It's called success. Some people get it, others, resent it. Polarising or not, I still love the LCD. Watch the video (qt).
Wow. The Beck just keeps on coming. This is the latest video from Beck's own website. See folding sets morph into themselves, just like those Mad Magazine back covers. This video has been the buzz for a couple days on the net, but I have not been able to source a clean version of the video. Watch the video after a couple of click throughs (real).
Swiss electro vixen, Miss Kitten, goes it solo with this slice of thumping electronica. Her signature deadpan delivery remains intact but sputters up the beats and squelches for a structured pop song. Watch the video (real).
Toronto soul vixen Ivana Santilli brings in this cool soul breeze just in time for the summer. Less experimental than her earlier work on her debut, Brown, her latest album, Corduroy Boogie, falls more into the tradition soul/R&B set. Watch the video (qt).
More neon goodness. This video is from London's design and electronica duo known as Lemon Jelly. This single is from their proper second album, although it's really their their third collection of work released (the first was a compilation of EP's). Watch the video (real).
New York electro-popsters Enon seem to have big buckets of cash to spend on making amazing little videos. This one is no exception with black and white and hot pink spray paint accents. Not too shabby for an indie band from Brooklyn. Watch the video (qt).
Remember the eighties when you could get ascii images of Albert Einstein and the Mona Lisa. Remember how cool it was? Remember how lame it became? Well, Beck has had another go at reviving this lost geekware art form in his latest video. Now you can get an ascii rendition of Beck... with motion. Watch the video (qt).
Skip rope plays a prominent role in this video. As do samples. There are alot of samples. It's a cacophony of samples. Many of which are rumoured to be uncleared. Oh, Go! Team, what have you done? Watch the video (qt).
Did K-OS win anything for this video at the recent Much Music Video Awards 2005? I didn't watch so I dont know for sure. All I know is that the Backstreet Boys made an appearance to promote their reunion record, and Ashlee Simpson apparently performed live. No funny jig, though. I would have tuned in for that, again. Watch the video (qt).
