DOVES: Snowden

Although critics called the Doves' third long player a blantant mainstream rock attempt which lost much of the moody experimentation of their first two albums, there is something reassuringly gloomy, at least lyrically, about this latest single. Maybe it's light on the edginess, but I'll take reliably good any day. Watch the video (qt).

AIR: Kelly Watch The Stars

A classic from the french duo. This is probably the only ping-pong near fatality I have every witnessed. Thank God Kelly pulls through... Watch the video (qt).

LAMB: Wonder

Trip hop duo Lamb are wonderlicious. Not only is this a great down tempo track, but rumour is that vocalist Lou Rhodes is about to release a solo album. Seems like the trip-hoperati are all about going solo, as did Roisin Murphy of Moloko. I'll keep you posted. Watch the video (qt).

M.I.A.: Bucky Done Gun

Fierce track from the Sri Lankan born grime wonder. Blaring horns and old school electro hip hop beats with M.I.A.'s impeccable delivery. This one sounds best very very loud with very low frequency response. Watch the video (real).

ESTHERO: We R In Need Of A Musical Revolution

For some reason I find this track so... passé. It's a bit of a rant, filled ironical with more hate than love which she apparently is tirading against. Normally a seductive smouldering chanteuse with torchy off kilter production and lyrics, Esthero aims squarely for mainstream music fans with imagery aping a preening Paris Hilton with accessory dog in the back of a limo and a sounds that tinly echoes of poorly lit early nineties canned dancebox production. No revolution here, and begging for a serious remix. Thankfully, the album contains singles more worthy of our attention, and Esthero's considerable talents are not bludgeoned to lifeless pulpy waste. But for goodness sakes, please leave Ashanti alone! GOLDFRAPP: Oh La La

Electro shocker! Goldfrapp returns to the forefront with another masterful track, with pumped up electro synths and glam rock attitude spray painted all over it. Although the new album, Supernature, is not expected to drop until August September, 2005 in the UK and early 2006 in North America (thanks, Arjan), we have this gemstone, complete with Alison galloping suggestively on a mirrorball horse, to enjoy in the meantime. DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979: Black History Month

I remember recitals like this one- all dressed up in formal wear, audience hungry for their teen virtuaso to do them proud, to justify the hours and expense of tirelessly pursuing classical music training. Here though, DFA'79 actaully get to rock out. Watch the video (qt).

MORCHEEBA: Lighten Up

Second single from The Antidote, this video comprised of a mish mash of graphic design imagery from exotic locals. A very pop oriented tune, with Daisy's confident delivery. Watch the video (real).

INTERPOL: Evil

New York glumsters Interpol take an unconventional approach to their typically high styled visuals and go oddly Jim Henson. This eerie puppet has such a strange juxtiposition to the events surrounding it leaving you fixated and puzzled at the same time. Watch the video (qt).

JUNIOR SENIOR: Move Your Feet

What is with this goddamn infectious tune that has me humming incessantly despite its obvious pop machine talent contest pagentry? I mean for goodness sakes, it's the bloody American Idol! I guess when it boils down to it, it's all about the music. And it is a finely crafted, well performed pop gem. Now the From Justin to Kelly movie? That's a whole other story tragedy... MISS KITTEN: Professional Distortion

Swiss electro vixen, Miss Kitten, goes it solo with this slice of thumping electronica. Her signature deadpan delivery remains intact but sputters up the beats and squelches for a structured pop song. Watch the video (real).

Did K-OS win anything for this video at the recent Much Music Video Awards 2005? I didn't watch so I dont know for sure.
