SOULWAX: NY Excuse

Losing the clubbed to death vibe of their previous (and might I add genius) single, E Talking, the Belgium band present a completely different twist to their typically rock-electro aesthetic: child-like singing. MY ROBOT FRIEND: Power Of Love

Only in New York, My Robot Friend is possibly the most insane take of the electroclash movement. Not glamourous, not flamboyant, and definitely not working the fashionista angle. Watch the video (qt).

DANIEL AGUST: The Gray

Former Gus Gus singer, Daniel Agust finally gets his solo project a proper distribution deal with indie label One Little Indian. It seems like ages ago when I first saw Daniel perform this mesmerizing track of orchestral and electronic magnificence at the Airwaves festival in Reykjavik. I later debuted this track as the opener to a set I played on CBC Radio 3's now defunct program, Radiosonic. Watch the video (qt).

ROOTS MANUVA: Too Cold

Not the finest track from the unbelievably charismatic Roots Manuva, but one of his recent. I'm not entirely sure if I agree with the creative direction of this period piece hip-hop dub video either... Watch the video (qt).

THE KILLERS: Smile Like You Mean It

The ghost of Killers past? This video seems very "A Christmas Carol" with Brandon Flowers as the ghost of Christmas past... Not my favourite Killers track, but the Las Vegas boys still make the lady bloggers swoon. Watch the video (real).

THE UNICORNS: I Was Born A Unicorn

Okay, this Montreal band did break up. Kaputz. Gone. Just like a unicorn. The live show was a disaster (@ The Drake Underground, Toronto), but the album I quite liked. Lo-fi and late arriving comes this clip. Watch the video (qt).

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS: Your Daddy Don't Know

Vancouver's favourite super band have a new record on the way entitled Twin Cinema. You'll have to check Matador for the MP3, but I'll get it posted here as soon as we can find a video. This feature clip is from the Fubar soundtrack, is a remake of the 80's band called Toronto. Neko Case handles lead vocals and works a great Stevie Nicks look. Much respect to Frank Chromewaves for the tip and linkie love. Watch the video (qt).

GORILLAZ: Feel Good, Inc.

I'm going to go off on a tangent and announce my utter hatred of all things EMI. Yes. EMI is an antiquated fascist regime that imprisons music. The new Gorillaz cd is copy protected and I will not buy it. Stupid EMI. I listen to music through a laptop or an iPod. Your copy protection software blows. Get over yourself and start pricing and/or adding value to CD's with artwork, lyrics, photos, video files or whatever. BOYCOTT THE PURCHASE OF THIS CD. Okay, I'm done now. Watch the video (real).

DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979: Pull Out

I picked up the Dutch limited edition of the Death From Above 1979 long player while at Amoeba Records in San Francisco. It's got a bunch of kick ass remixes plus 2 new tracks "Better Off Dead" and "You're Lovely (But You've Got Lots Of Problems)". I just can't get bloody enough of these two Toronto lads. It's a year old, but it still is the definitive party record of the year. This is the latest video which features some eye popping angles to what seems to be a Japanese cartoon inspired clip. KYLIE MINOGUE: I Believe In You

This collaboration with New York's Scissor Sisters keeps Kylie's electro pop antics oh so fine. Although this release has been out since she first released her singles collection, we wanted to keep all the Kylie junkies out there up to speed on how she was doing with her breast cancer treatment. MAXÏMO PARK: Apply Some Pressure

Newcastle band Maxïmo Park apply some twitchy pressure in their debut video. Much hype follows this Brit band as they were impressive enough to be signed to Warp, a label who's main staple is electronica. Watch the video (qt).

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: Everybody Knows That You Are Insane

Leave it to maverick photographer Terry Richardson to turn what would be considered just another rock band video into a punk fashion statement. Remarkably, Terry does not show is own penis is this video, but his twisted little assistant gets his ya-yas out bare assed in the snow, in the shower, on the toilet, over the giant Terry Richardson teddy bear, etc. Funny, then kind of sad, really. Queens of the Stone Age, what were you thinking? Watch the video (qt).

FISCHERSPOONER: Never Win

It's difficult to tell if Fischerspooner is serious or one big joke. They are terribly tongue in cheek, particular in this video with a perfectly shaped black eye on frontman Casey Spooner, the six armed baseball uniform complete with tiny bat, or the football jersey as silk kimono. Whatever the case, lyrically this track reveals a deeper meaning to the Fischerspooner dynamic. The recording duo were apparently at blows due to the pressure of pulling together the sophomore record. Wow. Fischerspooner actually get deep. Kind of touching actually. Watch the video (qt).

SAINT ETIENNE: Side Streets

Saint Etienne may as well work for the city of London tourism bureau. Their delightful pop anthems chronicle the quintesential English life, with local references aplenty. This track sees the band tempting fate as they take the side streets away from the safety of the main. From the forthcoming album, Tales From Turnpike House. Watch the video (qt).

THE WHITE STRIPES: Blue Orchid

Jack and Meg do it again. Minimal, dirty and iconic. This is what you get when you have a distinct vision. Swampy blues is no drastic departure for the Stripes, but considering the spare arrangements, Jack and Meg manage to keep it fresh. Visually, director Floria Sigismondi adds her signature gothic style to this beautifully decrepit video. Also stars supermodel Karen Elson, which coincidentally was the set-up for the future Mr. and Mrs. White. Watch the video (qt).

BJÖRK: Where Is The Line

Bjork goes properly over edge with this video directed by mate Gabriela. Witness her downward spiral from relevant, boundry pushing artist, to Yoko Ono-esque conceptual nutter. Thankfully, it's not one of my favourite tracks from the Medulla album, because the spitting up of clear jelly gunk kind of leaves me with that strange, icky feeling. Watch the video (qt).

BASEMENT JAXX: U Don't Know Me

From their singles collection album, Basement Jaxx hoots it up with a slice of reality style Royalty TV. Watch the Queen traipse around London getting into all manner of mayhem, including taunting strippers, street brawling and hopping turnstiles. A riot to watch and a hot house track to boot. LALI PUNA: Micronomics

A brilliant indie rock fused electronic track from the Munich band. Lead by shy vocalist Valerie Trebeljahr, I will fully admit that, although a fan, find their studio work definitely out-shines their live performance. An equally sombre video to match Valerie's deadpan delivery. Watch the video (qt).

COLDPLAY: Speed Of Sound

Okay, I've caved. Yes, I like Coldplay. Nay, I love Coldplay. F*ck you for judging. This track rules! And favourite director Mark Romanek, who coincidentally will have a Directors Label compilation out this September, makes this clip a double whammy. Watch the video (qt).

KIMONO : Japanese Policeman

Fascinating Japanese styled puppetry from Reykjavik indie rockers, Kimono. I had the pleasure of seeing this band play live while traveling through Iceland and this video is a brilliant visualization that deserves attention. Watch the video (qt).

METRIC: Dead Disco

The nomadic band originally from Toronto, is expecting a new long player soon. To hold us over, here a video from their second album, but probably their first with actual distribution. Join lead singer Emily Haines as she laments the death of rock to all those unoriginal, trendy muthafuckers! Watch the video (qt).

RÓISÍN MURPHY: If We're In Love

The Irish singer from the nutter band Moloko goes solo with her first album. Collaborating with producer Matthew Herbert, this single is as over the top as any of the Moloko pieces, but different in a less cartoony way and more in a drama queen artiste fashion. Clearly, she is still nuts. Directed by Simon Henwood. Watch the video (UPDATED qt) or video (win).

THE KILLERS: All These Things That I've Done

The Killers introduce the world to the first new wave vs. gospel hybrid track in the universe. An inspiring video that just seems to work for the lads from Las Vegas. Quite possibly because lead singer Brandon Flowers is a practicing Mormon. Umm... yeah right. Send in the sacrificial groupies! Watch the video (real).

HUSKY RESCUE: Summertime Cowboy

Finnish one-man-band Marko Nyberg enlists a number of his good friends and collaborators to piece together Husky Rescue. The first track is a delight of laidback spaghetti western lounge pop gem. Watch the video (real).

AUDIO BULLYS: Shot You Down

Strange... after the cult success of Kill Bill and the obligatory two soundtracks, it is an interesting choice of sampling to import the recognizable loops of Nancy Sinatra's Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). None the less, this hoodlum house version is appealing... to the club thumping set. Watch the video (UPDATED qt) or video (real).

I AM KLOOT: Over My Shoulder

Manchester trio, I Am Kloot have a second album out this year. I admit, I've not heard too much about I Am Kloot until now, but this track is steadily growing on me. By rights is should be a poppy unbeat track based on this simple, catchy melody. Somehow, both lyricaly and visually, it descends into a bitter misanthropy that puzzles me. Watch the video (qt).

FRANZ FERDINAND: Michael

Are Franz Ferdinand gay? By this track... maybe. But probably not. Although this video has been around for a while, we're plugging the Franz as they prep their new record for release. Speaking to New Music Express, lead singer Alex Kapranos comments, "The character of this new record is beginning to take form. I was joking with a friend about how if the last record was music for girls to dance to, this is probably music for girls to cry to... at least for them to leak a little tear to while they’re dancing.” Well, they got their boyfriends dancing on this track, those cheeky Scottish monkeys. SONS AND DAUGHTERS: Dance Me In

I first heard of this Scottish fourpiece when they opened for Franz Ferdinand. Their country / blues tinged high energy shows immediately won me over. Finally their debut album is on the verge of being released and this first single is signature in capturing their live stage presence. Watch the video (real).

MYLO: In My Arms

What a strange video. It seems very lovey dovey with all the canoodling on screen, but is that guy not in bed with another woman at the opening of the clip? So is he making a fool of the girl he's gone to pick up from the bus trip or is he just a lothario superstud with a girl for every day of the week? The Scottsman Miles MacInnes, AKA Mylo, samples Kim Carnes' "Betty Davis Eyes". Watch the video (win).

CAESARS: Jerk It Out

I've always really like the Swedish music scene, although I've not had a great relationship with the Caesars. They opened at some forgettable concert I attended and I wasn't really impressed. They just seemed noisey. Thanks to the ubiquity bestowed upon any song featured in an iPod commercial, the band is having a bit of public revival. This recycled track from a previous album is a compact pop gem. The reviews of the rest of the album are less postive. Watch the video (real).

EMILIANA TORRINI: Heartstopper

More folky pop brilliance from the Icelandic siren, this time with a video filled with marionettes. Own this album- it is well written and well performed by a sleeper talent that threatens to mainstream. Watch the video (qt).
